I read this pretty much cover-to-cover along with some of the ISACA review manual and Q&A's. I think I passed fairly easily, but I was scoring over 50% on practice tests before any amount of studying. This book is better than the ISACA review manual in it's structure and easier to learn from, but missing some of the terminology that you'll only be able to get from the official review docs. You might be able to get away with just this and the ISACA review Q&A's, which is what I'm going to try and do for the CISM next.
The book is well organized and clear. Typical of the series, has nice tips and pointers and included CD with practice exams. The issue is that this is the first release in this class (All-in-One Exam Guides) and maybe the author is out of sync with the updated exams. The first 6 chapters (out of a total 9 and 3 Appendices) , while informative, are too focused on frameworks. Only the last 3 or so chapters are relevant for the perspective of taking the exam.To repeat myself a bit - the book is good learning, but does not meet the stated objective of the series - the Exam Guide. It is extremely out of sync with actual exam coverage. So in my opinion cannot be relied upon for preparing for the exam. Definitely not All-In-One Is All You Need as advertised. Maybe the author can redo the book for the second release.
Though it is not the only book you will need to pass the test, I found it be very informative and put the important information accessible by a smooth righting flow vs. ISACA manual. I definitely recommend review of ISACA RMF and NIST 800-53 materials to compliment your studies.
Has some rough edges, but, generally, well written. I can’t compare to official ISACA metarial - those books are overpriced and I haven’t read it.This is the sole book that I’ve used to pass the test. I also used the official questions DB.I agree, this book talk to much about different frameworks and that material does not belong here.
As another reviewer mentioned, the text is not fully aligned with the exam - because the authors are not wired into the Association's developed of the exam and the BoK.On the other hand, the book is actually better organized and thoughtfully crafted than the sometimes haphazard works produced by ISACA, Which is to say that if your goals extend beyond the craven purpose of adding abbreviations to your email signature and resume, the book is quite worthwhile. But that's not why people will buy it, and certainly isn't why I bought or even learned about it.Perhaps the authors would be better served adding to the broader understanding of risk management through an exploration of the ISACA framework rather than attempting to supplement ISACA's own endeavors in this area. Not that ISACA is doing such a great job with it, either. The association's prep books are overpriced and weak on exposition and rationale for what appears in the BoK (perhaps reflecting its author-by-consensus development). The topic is so important -- more important than computer security, in fact -- that both ISACA and Rogers still have a lot of work to do before risk management for IT becomes mainstream.
Good stuff
Was instrumental in my passing the exam
